Event Spotlight: Summer Concert Series

The bricks were sizzling this summer, and it wasn't just from the heat! The Downtown Boulder Concert Series enjoyed another great summer with both Bands on the Bricks and Noon Tunes. While the music ranged from classical to cajun to celtic and of course good 'ol fashioned rock n' roll, one thing remained constant: the dancing!

Noon Tunes kicked off the season with Soul Sacrifice, a Santana cover band and probably one of the more straight-forward rock acts we have ever had in Downtown Boulder. It was the perfect high energy kick off to what turned out to be a diverse set of acts. Throughout its twelve week run the standout acts included: the looping magic of Arthur Lee Land, the cajun flair of Zydeco, and the downhome bluegrass sounds of the Stanleytones.

Bands on the Bricks reached a milestone this year by having zero concerts rained out! If you have been enjoying these concerts over the years you know that this is indeed quite an occurrence. With the weather cooperating we had a chance to experience some great music from some well known bands and some newcomers to Bands on the Bricks. Girls on Top kicked in off in their usual fashion, Hazel Miller wowed the crowd as only she can, and newcomers Onda kept everyone on their feet with some swinging salsa jams. Wendy Woo seemed to draw the largest crowd this year, but it was a tough call as the bricks were packed every Wednesday night with people experiencing the fun of outdoor music on the Pearl St. Mall.

Thanks to Kory Koponen, Operations Manager and Resident Music Critic, for this post.
