Downtown Boulder's got that certain something

Avery: Business can push social change

A funny thing happened on the way to Twenty Ninth Street's coronation as the city's premier shopping destination. Downtown managed to have one of its best years in a long time.

Sure, there's the perennial stress about parking — (Don't believe it's an issue? Just watch how regularly the Daily Camera parking lot gate on Pearl Street gets torn off by desperate parkers.) — but that's true of every downtown.

What Boulder's downtown, and Pearl Street in particular, has in spades is something every business district wants: ambiance.
